Drawbore Joinery
Sometimes the oldest ideas are also among the best. That’s certainly the case with drawbore joinery. This technique dates back to at least the 17th century, if not earlier. It’s been used in furniture, wooden ships, and timber frame buildings. And despite its simplicity, it’s still hard to beat for a long-lasting joint.
Drawbore joinery is used in conjunction with mortise and tenon joints. The concept is simple. Slightly offset holes are drilled through both the mortise and the tenon. Then a wood peg or pin is driven through the holes, drawing the pieces together tightly and locking the joint in place without the use of glue.
