The giant jaw
The tiny crustacean shells crunches under the boot soles for every step we take. But although our stalk is far from silent, it doesn’t matter to the hunt as hippos feel safe in the water and therefore are not particularly difficult to get to.
However, several animals from the big herd in front of us have started to stretch their necks; sending us curious eyes. Hunting for hippopotamus does not have the reputation of being the most challenging hunt, which is why Rasmus Kjær does not have very high expectations for this expedition. He simply considers the hippopotamus hunt as the start of the crocodile hunt, which is the predominant goal of this trip to Zimbabwe. The giant animal basically has to be shot, primarily to be used as a bait for the large and coldblooded reptiles. Rasmus had imagined the hunt to be easy; it ends up far from his expectations.
