Buffalo in the deep
Islands of swamp plants, walls of reed dirt and dense bush whizz past us at close range. We are in a small boat, which is taking us at high speed through a complicated system of brown river channels and lakes in one of Argentina's large marshlands. The outfitter, Sergio Winitzky, has hired a local fisherman to show us the way through the twisted river system. Without his help we would never be able to find our way either in or out of the wetland.
We have travelled more than 40km when the skipper finally steers the boat towards the land. On the coast we can see a four-wheel drive and the driver, Mario, who is our contact at the farm where today’s buffalo hunt will take place.
