Graaff-Reinet is South Africa’s oldest colonial town after Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Swellendam. It was founded in 1787 by the Dutch East India Company and named after the then Governor of the Cape Colony, Cornelis Jacob van de Graaff and his wife Reinet. The town is not only known for the nearby natural treasures, but also because it boasts more historical monuments and buildings than any other town or city in South Africa.
