Cough alert – safe or sinister?

There’s a tendency among South African parents to think that tuberculosis (TB) is something that happens to somebody else.

I was one of these parents, until my three-year-old’s teacher was hospitalised with TB. With her diagnosis, panic quickly set in at the school. We were all reminded that anyone who’s out in public could be at risk. Schools, daycare centres and even your childcare worker could potentially expose your child to TB.
