There were probably more artisans than farmers among the 1820 English settlers brought out in a colonial immigration scheme to beef up the Eastern frontier of the old Cape Colony. Two hundred years later, Bathurst retains the feel of an English country village and boasts a vibrant colony of artists. And a meander through its trove of galleries and studios is high on the list of attractions for visitors to the Eastern Cape Sunshine Coast.
Ceramic artist Richard Pullen’s eye-catching studio and gallery is on the main tarred road through the village.
