Two of Michael Schumacher’s seemingly impregnable records stand to matched or broken in 2020. Mercedes’strong pre-season form and Hamilton’s own ability to reach new heights suggest a seventh title for the Briton is eminently possible. And Hamilton is just seven race wins behind Schumacher’s tally of 91.
What once seemed an outrageous anomaly is on the brink of being equalled, if not better. Hamilton needs seven victories this season to match Schumacher: he’s won at least nine races every year in the V6 turbo-hybrid era.
