IDEAL BIKE

Following Peter Gripton’s suggestions in his letter in MSL 710: I would go a stage further and say that your ideal bike changes as you age. What was my ideal bike 20 or even 10 years ago wouldn’t be suitable for what my criteria are now.

Heading towards the end of my seventh decade. I no longer need to think about commuting, speed isn’t an issue, nor is style a must. More important now are weight, manoeuvrability, simplicity, frugality and value for money! I can go at my own pace where and when I choose.

My current choice is a bike that Mikko has had recent (favourable, I think?) experience of – the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It certainly ticks all my boxes – for the moment...
