Sailing’s New Reality
ake a moment to stop and think about this image. literally airborne as it powers to victory in the 14,000-mile Brest Atlantiques race this past winter. (Yes, that’s daylight you see all the way back to the rudder in the central hull.) It was only seven years ago that the America’s Cup set the sailing world on fire with its full-foiling cats. Now we have 100-plus-foot tris like this one literally flying across oceans with a mere two sailors at the helm (in this case French sailing stars Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier).
