A dry, gravel riverbed meanders near greying cedar huts at the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre. Ornamental maples, boxwoods, rocks, and a boardwalk instantly invoke meditative calm. This is the or Peace Garden, created by Roy Tomomichi Sumi, a former World War II camp internee at nearby Rosebery, who later supervised the renowned Nitobe Memorial Garden at the University of British Columbia. His garden of “Past, Present and Future” was his final project, a gift to the memory of Japanese Canadians
