DYNAUDIO EVIDENCE PLATINUM

Almost a decade ago, the Evidence Platinum was the new flagship loudspeaker in Dynaudio’s extensive range. It’s still this Danish company’s flagship model, because Dynaudio is not one for making ‘flavour of the month’ changes to its product line-up. It spends a long time getting its various models right, after which they stay in the range for a long time so that the company can spend a long time working on its next model.

The Evidence Platinum looks a lot like Dynaudio’s earlier Evidence Temptation and Evidence Master models, but there are many differences… some minor, some major. One of the major differences is that the Evidence Platinum has two new Esotar² tweeters mounted on a solid (40mm thick) black aluminium baffle. Another is that it uses newly-developed (Model 18W75) 180mm diameter bass drivers. And when I say ‘newly developed’ you need to know that Dynaudio is one of the very few (so few, in fact, that you could count them on one hand) major high-end loudspeaker builders that actually manufactures every single one of the drivers it uses in its loudspeakers—bass drivers, midrange drivers, tweeters, the lot…

As for the minor differences, these would include the overall cosmetics, including the massive plinth underneath each cabinet, and improvements in the quality of the crossover components and internal cabling. However, when I say ‘improvements’, you have to consider that Dynaudio was already purchasing state-of-the-art capacitors and resistors to use in its crossover networks, it’s just that the state-of-the-art inevitably improves (however gradually) so that whenever Solen (Dynaudio’s capacitor supplier), for example, develops an improved version
