In life, appearances can sometimes be deceptive so don’t be lulled into any snap thoughts if and when you approach Dave Chisholm and his ‘56 Bedford artic. Yes, he might look like a personable sort of guy and he is of course just that but get him into conversation and you’ll discover all sorts of attributes – and accolades. Don’t get us wrong as we are not trying to discourage such a chat – just the opposite. Because even though he’s of an age where he now qualifies for a free TV licence, there’s still a passionate petrol-head personality burning inside that mature skin.
Cambridgeshire based Dave – and his Bedford – are now regulars at heritage events up and down the country as they’ve been everywhere from Glamis Castle in Scotland right down to the Isle of Wight. And he would certainly love to chew the fat with anyone who would like to hear chapter and verse of his stunning Bedford-Scammell-Taskers box van combination that also acts as his travelling home from home.
However, what we should warn you, there is a lot more to Dave’s story than you could ever imagine. Yes, for instance, who else would think about becoming electrically self sufficient by fitting a modern-day solar panel to the roof of his 63-year-old trailer. Nice one Dave.

What’s not much of a surprise about Dave is to learn he was born at Edmonton in North London because his distinctive southern accent is a bit of a giveaway, however, things could have been a lot different and he may well have ended up speaking with a Scottish twang
