The Tanglin spirit
At over 600 episodes, Channel 5’s Tanglin has made history as local television’s longest running drama. Nat Ho, 33, Darryl Yong, 32, and Kayly Loh, 29, have been part of the show’s 40-odd-strong cast since it launched in 2015. The TV show depicts the trials and tribulations of families living in a neighbourhood in Tanglin. Likewise, the three aspiring thespians have also had their fair share of hardships—enough to fill several episodes of Tanglin—over the past few years.
"I have no complaints about Tanglin, but if I had to name one, it's that I’m getting comfortable. So I think it’s time to get uncomfortable again."
A family that acts together
At the photo shoot, Darryl’s six-year-old Pomeranian, Tofu, and Kayly’s eight-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, Boy Boy, confidently explore the studio. It feels almost like we've been invited to a Christmas gathering at a Tanglin home.
As Nat’s eight-year-old kitty, Kymmi, is terrified of strangers, we found a pet model to stand in for her. Tabby, a 17-year-old Snowshoe cat, looks completely at ease in Nat’s arms and doesn’t bat an eyelid when placed next to Tofu and Boy Boy. It’s as if the three furkids were meant to be—or perhaps they’ve learnt from Tanglin’s three stars that a “family” that works together stays together.
NAT HO (THE DREAMER)
A showbiz veteran of sorts, Nat was one of the contestants on the first season of Singapore Idol. In the years that followed, he modelled part-time and acted in a number of dramas on Channels 5, 8, and U. He made the news in 2012 after spending $100,000 to produce his polarising debut music video , and then left for Taiwan in 2013 to further his music career. However, after just two years and releasing a Mandarin album, the star ran into management issues and terminated his nine-year contract with his Taiwan agency.
