PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Good Morning to all of the trapping community From Az.:

Boy what a wonderful storm we had last week it gave most of the State some of the needed moisture to help the Habitat to make it possible for a better fur harvest next year. From what I have been told this year was very thin for most species so we welcome the moisture. I know the Fur witch I have handled this year has been good stuff due to the cold wet Oct. and then continuing on through the winter hopefully we will be blessed with this same kind of weather next winter. Our season is now over and it time to start getting ready for next year most of us have a lot work to do to clean up last year and getting things ready for next year. We hope you have a grate year.

We have been invited to work with the National Trapping Ass. To host the Western Reagan Sport Expo This will be held on the 7-9 of June and it will be held in Holbrook Az. The reason for that is because it will be attended by all the neighboring states and Holbrook seemed to the best available location it will be held at the Navajo County Fairgrounds. If you are reading this and you are in the western states you will make sure you want to attend this event We have never this kind of a opportunity before so let’s make the best of it .This event planning is well under way. For those of you who are members of The ATA we will be needing all the help we can get if we don’t get hold of you for help please call me ((928-243-0973) and we will make sure we will have a place for you.

There are still many of our old supporters who have not renewed their membership for this year if you should fit in this group please get hold of our membership sec. (Carrie Crouther) You can call her at 928-699-4305 leave her a message or give her a text and get your name back on our mailing list.

The Arizona Game and Fish are still looking for People that can get certified to instruct there Trappers training course if you should be interested in being one of those instructors you can contact the education department of the game and fish or let me know (928) 243-0973 and I will help you set that up.

Our association is also looking for new ideas that can help our growth we always need to recruit new members.

I want to personally thank Lance for holding things together for the past year and look forward to working with him this next year.

A few things to remember

1. A trap in the ground is worth more than 100 traps in the truck.

2. If the animal is not there you won’t catch it

3. If you should catch the animal and dispatch him he not there anymore. Nor is any of it’s increase

4. If you catch all the animals out of an area then there won’t be any for next year

Happy Trapping and May the force be with you and, may the Trapping God smile upon you

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Well, trapping season is almost over but guess what. The ATA has a lot to do to help get you ready for next season. Here is how we want to help you:

1. Providing a one day workshop in your area. These one day workshops are free with lunch provided by the ATA. Travis Jerden, District 1 Director, hosted a workshop at Withrow Springs State Park March 2. Turnout was great and everyone seemed to enjoy a day of demos, instruction and fellowship. Check our website as well as our Face-book page to stay current on upcoming events.

2. By the time you read this, ATA Board of Directors meeting was March 30 in Little Rock (2516 Cantrell Rd) at Whole Hog Cafe at 9:30. As always, it was open to the public. We want to hear from you, the trapper. The ATA is here to help you. Feel free to call or email with any questions, ideas or concerns you may have.

3. Our 2019 Spring Convention is June 1 at Bear Creek State Park in Marianna, Arkansas (2955 Arkansas 44, Marianna) A full day of demos as well as an auction. There will be vendors so you can get everything needed to get you ready for next season. And District 6 Director, Mike Gregory, will be getting a pie in the face. You could be the lucky person to do the honors. The host motel is Quality Inn 2409 N Washington Street, Forrest City, AR 72335 (870) 970-6161 $63.32+tax. Be sure to mention the Arkansas Trappers Association to get this rate. Come join the fun.

4. The 2019 ATA Fall Convention will be September 14 at the AGFC Special Use building in Mayflower. There will be demos, games, contests and vendors for that last minute item you may need.

5. The 2019 ATA Trappers Workshop Oct. 25 - 27 at Camp Clearfork. Contact me or Aaron Hitchcock at (479) 997-5361 for more info. It is first come first serve with new students having priority. More info is on our website.

We have already had a busy first quarter of 2019. Eric Brinkman, District 7 Alternate Director, and I participated with the Becoming an Outdoors Woman which is a trapping workshop geared toward women put on by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. I want to thank Jason Hooks with the AGFC for inviting the ATA to be a part of this great event and we look forward to being a part of this event in the future.

We worked the Big Buck Classic in Little Rock the last weekend of January. I want to thank all the ATA members who helped that weekend. We talked to a lot of people who had no idea what trapping is or how trapping helps the quail, turkey and deer population. It was a big success we look forward to being there next year.

The 2019 ATA Fur Sale is in the books. Prices were a little better than I expected. You can see the results on our Facebook page or at our website.

Doug Henderson, District 5 Director, worked the Cabot Wild Game Expo March 2 in Cabot. Thank you, Doug for helping out.

I want to take a moment and thank our Secretary/Treasurer, Karen Fuller. You’ve heard the phrase, “The glue that holds it all together”. That’s Karen...Thank you, Karen.

As you can see, the ATA always has something going on and we value your input. Contact me or any officer if you have a suggestion, idea or concern.

Now, a topic no one likes but I’ll bring it up. Everything the ATA does for the trappers of Arkansas cost money. Whether it’s a booth at a local county fair to a booth at the Big Buck Classic or rental for a convention or Camp Clearfork. We depend on memberships to offset these expenses. Please go to our website and look at the membership options. At a minimum you will spend $13 to help us help you. Thank you for considering a membership with the Arkansas Trappers Association.

Remember, any time you get a chance, take a kid trapping and keep the tradition alive. Be safe out there and may God bless you all. — Wayne Watson

EDITOR’S REPORT

The annual ATA Fur Sale went off without a hitch, as always. Check out our Facebook page for sale results!

As we head into Spring, things seem to slow down, in a sense. No more running trap lines, unless you’re involved with ADC work. The usual workshops and conventions are planned or being planned. Whether it’s the ATA website or Facebook pages, we’re updating content very frequently. While we understand not
