Coin of the Year Nominees Selected

United States coins were selected as nominees in five of 10 categories for the 2020 Coin of the Year Awards program, presented by World Coin News, sister publication to Numismatic News, and sponsored by The Journal of East Asian Numismatics.

The COTY Nomination Committee convened Oct. 24-25 to consider in excess of 1,000 2018-dated coins from 45 issuing entities around the world. Two days of deliberation resulted in 100 nominees: 10 coins in each of the 10 award categories.

“Since COTY was set to honor 2018 coinage, we were expecting many nominations from around the globe for WWIrelated coins, for the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice,” said Tom Michael, longtime market analyst and COTY coordinator. “The U.S. candidate was a silver dollar coin.
