In 1922, Desbrowe-Annear advocated for universal, modest Australian housing via the publication . Almost 100 years later the need for modest, sustainable, affordable housing remains. NMBW’s North Melbourne House confidently tackles real issues — an aging population, rising house prices, sustainability and urban sprawl. The urban-infill occupies the rear garden of an existing cottage, adapting its language from ‘fence’ to ‘building’ as it flows from the rear laneway to a quaint streetscape.
