Getting to Millthorpe is easy. The historic town is 20 minutes’ drive southeast of Orange and 30 minutes west of Bathurst.

The drive from Sydney through the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains is 3h 30 min. You can also fly to Orange or Bathurst airports and rent a car. You’ll find plenty of elegant places to stay in Millthorpe.

Fine food and wine complement an escape to Millthorpe, where truffles are grown. Enjoy dining at Tonic, a restaurant with consistent awards in The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide. The Old Mill is a cafe and restaurant with a pretty courtyard.

There are cellar doors to visit, too. The Orange wine region is renowned for cool-climate wines and at Millthorpe there are a number of wineries, including Angullong Wines and Slow Wine Co.

Taste sweets at the charming Millthorpe Railway Station, built in the 1860s, or you can also join a wine tour.

Among the other enchanting things to do and see in Millthorpe, explore the Golden Memories Millthorpe Museum for fascinating colonial and Aboriginal artefacts.

On the annual Millthorpe Garden Ramble you’ll see colourful and gorgeous gardens, and the Millthorpe Markets is held twice a year with more than 200 stalls.

European settlement of the area began when a government stock station was established in 1823.

The town is based upon a land grant originally known as Grove Farm which was made out to convict overseer Charles Booth in 1834. Noted explorer Thomas Mitchell twice stayed there during inland expeditions.
