BLUE MOUNTAINS
POOL OPENING HOURS
Blue Mountains pools have extended their opening hours during heatwaves in the summer months.
The extended hours will apply during December, January and February when the temperatures are higher than usual for the time of year unless the pool has been previously booked.
The changes will apply to all Blue Mountains pools – at Glenbrook, Springwood, Lawson, Katoomba and Blackheath – but will vary, according to existing programs and current opening times. Extensions will also apply to different days of the week.
Glenbrook, Springwood and Lawson pools will close as late as 9pm during very hot weather; Katoomba indoor pools will close at 9pm, while Katoomba’s outdoor pool hours will extend to 8pm. Blackheath will close at 8pm, though extended hours are already in place at Blackheath on weekends.
Extended times will be subject to staffing levels and may be affected when heatwaves occur over many days.
CLOSING RECYCLING
Blue Mountains City Council will consider permanently closing the resource recycling platform at the Katoomba Resource Recovery & Waste Management Facility, following the discovery of suspected Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).
The platform has been closed since December 2017 and more than $4 million spent on extensive remediation at the site, to date. The small vehicle drop off area and Community Recycling Centre (CRC) at the Katoomba facility is operating as usual and will continue to do so.
PARKING
Plans to introduce one-hour parking around Blackheath Gardens have been deferred.
Blue Mountains Council deferred the decision after the Heathens Choir, which uses a hall near the garden argued that some members with mobility issues would be impacted.
