BLUE MOUNTAINS
RED GUM PARK BRIDGE
Council will have to rebuild the bridge in Red Gum Park at Bullaburra after it was damaged earlier this year and closed until further notice.
In 2019, Council assessed the bridge and undertook remedial work on components of the bridge to extend its life and ensure pedestrian safety.
However, the once-in-50-year rainfall event and subsequent flash flooding of February 2020 caused irreversible damage to the bridge’s footings and structural elements.
The bridge is one of many damaged assets after a year of natural disasters. More than 330 visitor facility assets, including footbridges, boardwalks, tracks and stairs were damaged by the 2019-20 bushfires and 2020 flooding.
BLACKHEATH SOLDIERS MEMORIAL PARK
Council adopts draft masterplan for Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park.
The Masterplan provides direction for the landscaped section of the park and the natural bushland sections will be managed in accordance with the Plan of Management.
The bushland links to Popes Glen, across Prince Edward Street, which is currently undergoing community consultation regarding a separate project on that site.
In line with the needs of the community, a high priority action is for an accessible pathway from ANZAC gates to the pools, playground, picnic area and proposed new toilet. This work is expected to commence early next year.
A masterplan is a detailed plan that guides future design and development for public spaces.
REJUVENATION
A rejuvenation of Springwood’s busy town centre is happening later this year.
Improvements include the upgrading of three pedestrian crossings to Australian standards (on Macquarie Street, between Raymond Rd and Rest Park), making it easier and safer for pedestrians to access local businesses.
New street plantings including more crepe myrtle trees and new seating, will further revitalise Macquarie Street. In addition, parking spaces will be defined by markings, making it easier to park.
