Exploring Yankee captains

YANKEE CAPTAIN I Baseball Hall of Fame voter Steven Marcus of News-day fame made headlines when he revealed his decision for the HOF’s Class of 2020. He called it his “Just Jeter” ballot, circling only the name of the popular Yankee shortstop. Marcus took some heat from critics who felt his one-man vote too easily dismissed otherwise deserving players.

In fact, there are 31 other names on the ballot for 2020 induction. Among them, however, are players whose reputations were stained by links to steroid abuse. The kings of that crew: Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Roger Clemens. Considering their hefty stats haven’t been enough to get them inducted, it’s clear they’re paying the price for bad decisions. They’re part of an ongoing debate.
