1952 Topps Mantle card produces bidding war

SPILLOVER — As you’d expect, the big names in online auctions this time out are the same as last time out: the evergreen Mickey Mantle; Kobe Bryant, who’s tragic death still weighs heavy; and Patrick Mahomes, whose Super Bowl MVP performance pushed him into the stratosphere of today’s most collectible athletes.

“The Magnificent Yankee” took up two of the top three spots. In fact, an SGC 6.5-grade 1952 Topps Mantle touched off some bidding war madness. It inspired 219 bids in all and soared to nearly $100,000. Just days earlier, an SGC 5.5-grade specimen of the same holy grail brought nearly $50,000.
