SHOHEI CARDS SURGING

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels has elevated himself to the top of the hobby, and why not? He’s a one-of-a-kind baseball force, between his prodigious home runs and blazing speed on the basepaths and unhittable selection of pitches on the mound. He also has forged a reputation as a hard-working, positive role model.

In early August, Ohtani already has had a remarkable season — or maybe we should say “seasons” — as both hitter and pitcher. With almost two months to go, his stats included 40 homers, 80 RBI, 15 steals and a .305 average at the plate. On the mound, Ohtani showed a 9-5 record, a 3.32 ERA and 160 strikeouts in 124 innings.
