Close encounters with CWD

My observation point was nicely sited. A bank behind me made me inconspicuous. A rectangular fen field in front was bordered by well-reeded dykes. From my raised position I could watch over the whole field and parts of fields further away. I had no agenda at all, save to observe in the hope (rather than expectation) of spotting a roe deer, fox or hare. I also looked out for the unwelcome sight of lurcher men.
I watched for a long while without seeing any human or other animals of interest. After some time, a movement caught my eye and attention, and a short search with my binoculars revealed a beast walking left to right along the dyke
