In June 2019, a gallery and residence renovated by the Japanese architect Sakaushi Taku officially opened. ‘FUJIHIMURO’ is a combination of the city’s name ‘Fujiyoshida’, where the project is located, and the Japanese word ‘himuro’ which indicates the icehouse used in existing buildings. What is noteworthy in this project is the tunnel within the galleries, where the architect engaged in the construction as well as the design. We are joined by the architect to hear more about the project and how he came to realise his vision.
