Coming From Eveleigh Press

In recent years, Eveleigh Press, the book side of our organisation, has been beavering away on a number of publications. One, The Steam Tram in Australia and New Zealand, which has been in preparation for five years, is due for release around the time this issue appears. This volume, by Bruce Macdonald OAM, covers the various systems in Australasia that used the steam tram for public transport. Bruce’s work is enhanced with colourful maps of some of the systems and covers some very interesting modelling opportunities, like the Parramatta-Redbank (on the Parramatta River) system, bringing rail and water systems together.

Another volume which has also been ‘in the works’ (for over 25 years) is Goods Wagons of the NSW Railways 1855–1905. This comprehensive volume has been prepared by Ian Dunn using the copious notes generated by the research undertaken by Don Estell at Railway House over many years. Covering the early history of the goods wagon in NSW, the numerous chapters are well illustrated, considering the period, with photographs and rounded out with Greg Edwards’ magnificent scale drawings, which the book was designed around. This volume will give the NSWGR modeller and historian the opportunity to understand the growth and development of the goods rolling stock fleet. The volume is scheduled for release in early 2019 with a generous advance purchase offer anticipated.

Another volume that has been in preparation for a couple of years is Garry Saunders’ NSW Railways in Colour 1855–1957. A privileged number of the NSW modellers and historians have already been able to enjoy Garry’s presentations, covering the colour schemes used by the NSWGR from the days of the Sydney Railway Company right through to the modern era at various conventions, but this is the definitive version. Garry’s work is accompanied by Greg Edwards’ masterly coloured drawings of the rolling stock mentioned in the work, including the many emblems and lettering styles used. Again, a mammoth work with a scheduled publication date of early 2019. An attractive advance purchase deal is expected soon.
