    The first thing you notice about Monate Game Lodge is the silence. This vast 3 000ha private game reserve in Limpopo is a short drive from nearby Nylstroom (Modimolle), 160km from Pretoria, but not long after you enter the imposing gate it feels as if it’s just you and the bushveld. If you’re a city dweller, the vastness can intimidate you – but after a day or so, you can’t imagine anything more wonderful than driving slowly among violet and confetti trees, hoping to see
