About this ebook

One of the main advantages of travelling solo is being able to make instant decisions without having to consult anyone. I was in London when I saw the ad for a safari to Tanzania. Off I went and thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of Africa, a chance to see animals in their natural habitat. From Arusha to Zanzibar, every day there was something new to see, to experience. It was a fabulous journey, one I'd like to share with you.

This is how the female lets the male know he is her chosen one. She's ready to mate. I could almost see those delightfully long eyelashes flutter. A great start to my first day on safari out of Arusha in Tanzania, and the beginning of my first journey in Africa.

The safari is a camping trip with Guerba Tours. Our transport is a huge 4-wheel drive truck with overdrive. It travels slowly, which in the heat gets painful, but for seeing the countryside and taking photographs, just right. In the truck the seats are along each side. The sides are open with plastic pull-downs. Under the seats are our lockers, one small compartment each passenger, plus a few for storing fresh food. Along the back are other lockers for canned and powdered food. Our tents and sleeping bags are stored on racks up top, with cooking utensils and fold-up stools shoved in the back. The table is stored behind the cabin, the grate and cooking gear under the
