Good Lord, was the GL still a strong seller? The mid-range model offered 73 bhp 1600cc Pinto (98 mph maximum) or 2-litre with 98 bhp (108 mph). Rubbing strips, sports steels and rear wiper identified the exterior, while the cockpit gained Diamond upholstery, radio, centre console with clock, and rear parcel shelf, though the two-dial dashboard remained. September 1979 added remote driver’s and fixed passenger mirrors and carpeted lower door cards; 1980 brought headrests and Windsor cloth; Jan 1981 added tinted glass and opening rear quarters, then York trim from September. Discontinued in 1982 after being significantly outsold by LS and special editions.
