DASHBOARD DISASTERS

Behind many a classic car’s dashboard there lies an assortment of wires resembling spaghetti with minimal access to the backs of switches and gauges. So when a bulb that illuminates the speedo blows or a gauge stops reading, it is probably a simple fault but repair can seem daunting – you may be able to sit down whilst tackling it, but it’s hardly going to be relaxing. However, once you get to know the layout behind your dashboard and possibly modify it to make it easier to access, such problems are not so challenging. The following pages provide a general overview of many of the common dashboard-related problems that can arise, including some of the dreaded MoT-failure warning lights and how to fix them.
