Intermittent XJ8

Q I have an annoying intermittent fault with my 106,000-mile, 2004 XJ8: no ignition on the crank position of the key. The panel lights etc illuminate, but the engine doesn’t turn over. If I play with the fob, opening and closing sometimes that solves it, and sometimes if I just leave it overnight it cranks. I have swapped out three of the front power distribution fuse boxes at least once and physically banging on the box with the key in the crank position resulted in ‘away she went’!

My mechanic believes the security system is at fault and that may be controlled by the rear power distribution
