Winter’s here -

 and, unfortunately, it’s brought dry hair, flaky skin, chapped hands and cracked lips with it. But don’t despair: this head-to-toe winter-proof beauty routine will help restore your glow!

GET A HEAD START

There’s nothing worse than going out in that beloved LBD, only to realise its shoulders are now sporting an embarrassing snowfall of dandruff. The ravages of winter leave no area unaffected, so start your winter-proof routine from the top.

EXFOLIATE YOUR SCALP

While you may routinely exfoliate your face and body to help slough off dead skin cells and unclog pores, you might not have considered doing the same for your scalp. Flaking is caused by a build-up of dead skin cells on the scalp, which exfoliating can help gently lift away and break down. Look for scalp exfoliating products with dissolving granules or small amounts of salicylic acid.

TREAT IRRITATION AND INFLAMMATION

Use products which are specifically formulated to treat dry scalp and dandruff. Look for shampoos, conditioners and treatments containing salicylic acid, zinc and sulphur to tackle dryness and fungal growth, and selenium sulphide and ketoconazole for redness and irritation. Many natural ingredients, such as tea tree oil, can also be effective treatments for a dry, inflamed and sensitive scalp.
