Recently, one of Neill Blomkamp’s Twitter followers suggested the District 9 director’s Oats Studios should have a crack at making a Jurassic World short. “Ha,” Blomkamp replied: “Tell @UniversalPics.” And maybe recommend him for feature work, too, because Blomkamp’s record of stop-start movie projects looks increasingly frustrating once you’ve eyeballed his short films.

In the decade since heralded a distinct new voice in sequel sparked enough online heat to make 20th Century Fox drool. “I think it’s officially my next film,” Blomkamp tweeted. Then it wasn’t, and we got instead.
