Slickly updating an old favourite, Spenser Confidential is Netflix’s latest Ace up its sleeve. It’s inspired by the long-running series of detective novels originally written by Robert B. Parker and later continued by the brilliantly named Ace Atkins, whose 2013 book Wonderland is the source material for this Boston-set crime-comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Black Panther’s Winston Duke.
Of course, it’s not the first time this gumshoe has been on screen: back in the ’80s, TV show , starring Robert Urich, spanned three seasons, 66 episodes and four” – which should be music to the lugholes for fans of Roman Polanski’s neo-noir classic.
