Mind the Gap

Periodically, I cycle through the idea of finishing my CPL. Having completed all of the written exams, which are now, fortunately, locked in stasis, it seems a shame not to. Having come from a media and literary background, my struggle with the written exams was epic, with me having to virtually learn a new language in order to navigate the mysterious ways of the CASA exam syllabus.

I sat Navigation first, an exam which is positively vintage, containing an hour of 1-in-60s, calculating heading and ground speed to the nearest degree and knot and converting CAS to TAS. With no mention of GPS, PBN or EFBs, I worked the rust off my whizz-wheel and went through a box of pencils drawing lines on maps. I passed first
