REGENERATIVE AND ORGANIC A winning combo

Organic farmers in New Zealand are taking livestock management to the next level by adding regenerative grazing to their toolbox. Regenerative grazing builds topsoil by optimising the relationship between stock, plants, and soil.

For the past several years Otago farmers Allan and Sonia Richardson have learned about regenerative principles from regenerative farmers overseas like Gabe Brown and Fred Provenza, via podcasts and from seeing Allan Savory’s 2013 TED talk. “It’s very motivating to hear these farmers all looking after their soil,” said Allan.

EXPERIENCED ORGANIC FARMERS

The Richardsons have been farming sheep and beef organically for two decades at Heriot and are well-respected sheep breeders, running 7500 Perendale, Texel, and Ultimate ewes as well as 150 Angus cattle. Their farm is certified organic by AsureQuality.
