Fujifilm’s Most Compact GF Lens Is Here

First shown at the launch of the GFX 50R at Photokina 2018, the most compact prime lens for Fujifilm’s mirrorless medium format digital camera system has finally arrived. The ‘pancake’-style Fujinon GF 50mm f3.5 R LM WR weighs in at a mere 335 grams and perfectly complements the compact GFX 50R camera body. This combination weighs in at 1.11 kilograms, which is pretty light for a medium format kit.

The optical construction utilises nine elements in six groups, including one aspherical type to help counter both spherical aberrations and distortion. The external construction is fully weather-sealed to match the capabilities of the GFX camera bodies, providing protection against the intrusion of dust and moisture, and insulation to enable shooting in sub-zero temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius.

The new Fujinon GF 50mm f3.5 R LM WR is the tenth G mount lens from Fujifilm and the focal length is equivalent to 40mm in the 35mm format. It measures just 48 millimetres in length. The minimum focusing distance is 55 centimetres, and the minimum aperture is f32. There’s a nine-blade diaphragm to give smoother, more-rounded out-of-focus effects, and it provides click-stopped adjustments on one-third stop increments. The screwthread filter fitting diameter is 62 millimetres.

Available in Australia from the late September, the Fujinon GF 50mm f3.5 R LM WR is priced at $1649.

Sony’s 4th Gen A7R Tops 60 Megapixels

Sony has just upped the ante in ultra-high resolution cameras by installing a 62.5-megapixel back-illuminated, full-35mm CMOS in the Alpha 7R Mark IV. What’s more, Sony claims its new ‘Exmor R’ sensor delivers a massive 15 stops of dynamic range. The effective pixel count is 61 million, giving a maximum image size of 9504x6336 pixels. The sensitivity range is equivalent to ISO 100 to 32,000, expandable to ISO 50 and 102,800.

And the big numbers don’t stop there. The A7R IV also boasts 10 fps continuous shooting with full AF/AE adjustment (and for up to 68 best-quality JPEGs), a hybrid AF system which uses 567 phase-difference detection points and 425 contrast-detection points, an OLED-type EVF with a resolution of 5.76 megadots (and a 120 fps refresh rate), and a new ‘Pixel Shift Multi Shooting’ mode which combines a total of 16 shots to give
