In the field of genomics, we love the saying “You’re what your grandmother ate”, as it pretty much sums up the idea that genetic variations have a hereditary tale. If you make poor choices throughout a lifetime, such as smoking, excessive drinking, chronic stress, poor diet, no exercise and toxic exposure, this will add significant pressure on a specific gene or SNP (pronounced “snip”), causing it to mutate.
