IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Come on, Dad, pick up the phone already!”
Peter, 34, has been trying to call his parents since 09:00, but the phone keeps ringing. Since they retired at the beginning of last year, this has been happening more and more. He is starting to worry, because his mother is not answering her phone either. The day goes by, and nothing. Finally, when dinnertime arrives, he gets a call from his father.
“Peter? Hi there, what’s going on?”
“Dad, what’s wrong with you? Why aren’t you answering your phone?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, but we’ve been having such a day. The village has been organising trips for us, and Mom and I are on our way to the Garden Route!”
The days when Grandma and Grandpa would spend the rest of their days sitting on the porch, waiting for the grandkids to visit, are long gone. Today, once you’ve stopped working full-time, there’s still the opportunity for a lively and exciting life.
