Even before he died, Yu Xingming was living as a ghost in New Zealand.

Three years after arriving on a work visa – apparently acquired after paying a fee of around $30,000 to a broker in China – little trace remains of the life led here by the 45-year-old, killed in a fall from a construction site in Auckland last May.
