ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS

Come first light I roll out of bed, make coffee-to-go and wheel a bicycle from the garage. The autumn air has a nice bite. I ride across the bridge near the salmon ladder and turn onto a rainforest trail towards Miracle Beach where I know there are views across the strait to the snow-capped peaks of mainland British Columbia. Sitting on a driftwood trunk I drink and think about the morning of work and afternoon of play ahead. This is my second week on Vancouver Island and I haven’t spent a cent since I arrived.

Imagine if your next trip, once you landed, didn’t cost anything except your time and energy but still left you enough of both to explore the surrounding area
