THAT’S KIND OF TRUE; SOME PEOPLE WON’T SURVIVE IT AND IF THEY DO, THEY MIGHT NOT BE QUITE AS THEY WERE BEFORE THEY STARTED.

I ’ve got a love/hate relationship with Northburn; it’s quite a volatile relationship too. It started the year before last when I had a crack at the 100 miler in the South Island’s Central Otago region for the first time. I swore to myself (actually swore at a lot of people, children included) that I would never run it again. This year I thought going back to get drunk (support my pals) would be a great way to celebrate my birthday. I definitely wasn’t going to run it again, especially because Northburn has 10,000 metres of elevation over the course of the 100 mile distance.
