Making the Connection

My best mate Craig 'Hawkspeed' Hawkyard (nickname earned due to his ability to fly over trail terrain) is running the multi-day 'Running the Planet' 250km race in Wanaka (March 2019) with his two brothers.

To prepare we thought we could align a long training weekend with our yearly boys weekend catchup.

Early in 2018 we both got our calendars out and in consultation with our families we carved out a three-day weekend in mid-November (if you don’t plan and schedule, it most likely won’t take place).

I left Craig to plan the run route and I started researching and purchasing the extra equipment I would need for an overnight trail run.

Lightness and and functionality were key. I purchased a 35-litre running pack, a compact sleeping bag and thermal liner, some gators, and made sure my camping stove worked.
