THE YEAR CANCER STRUCK
WHEN 2019 arrived we said, “This is going to be our year.” We were going to flourish. Well, it didn’t turn out that way.
Early in the year my aunt’s cancer returned with full force. My mom’s first anniversary of being free of breast cancer in April, which was when my eldest sister was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of bone marrow cancer. She died on 1 June.
In July my cousin was diagnosed with liver cancer. In August, one of my uncles was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In
