1 HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

There are strict procedures that must be adhered to in terms of the Labour Relations Act. Employers must be able to explain precisely how many people will be laid off, why they’re being retrenched and when it will happen. This must be followed by consultations during which employees can make suggestions to avoid layoffs. The employer has to consider employees’ suggestions and
