I love tidy homes – for other people. I can see how orderly surroundings create a sense that all is right with the world. No running around manically looking for your purse, or the moisturiser you absolutely need to be able to function today.

As it is, our flat tends towards the messy, the kind of home friends would describe to my face as ‘relaxed’. It means last weekend’s newspapers are strewn on the coffee table along with foot cream and a cluster of nail polishes. The remote should be there – but it’s not.
