In 1892, when the ingenious firearms inventor John M. Browning presented Winchester Repeating Arms with a scaled-down version of his large-caliber Model 1886, little did anyone foresee the newcomer becoming one of the most popular lever-action repeating rifles the world would ever see. The Model 1892, manufactured by Winchester continuously through 1941 and copied abroad more than any other of the firm’s rifles, has also outshone all comers with its appearances on TV and the silver screen.
