Essential Camping Equipment
Seasoned campers will know exactly what’s required to ensure a comfortable and relaxing break and will be able to pack a Bus for a weekend away in no time at all. However, for the uninitiated, it can be a bit of a minefield and it’s all too easy to forget as essential piece of camping kit or overload a Bus with a whole bunch of stuff you just don’t need.
Here at C&B HQ we spend a lot of time answering questions regarding ‘the right awning for my Bus’ or ‘where can I get a 24-volt cool box’ etc and you’d be surprised how often we hear ‘We’ve just bought our first Camper but have never been camping before, what equipment will we need?’ So, we’ve compiled a brief collection of what we consider to be the essentials for a typical weekend away. Of course, there’s a lot more you could add, but this covers the basics and should be enough to ensure you camp in comfort while learning the ropes and adding to your own list of camping must-haves.
Sat nav, apps ’n’ maps
Whether you’re an Android or iPhone user, there are plenty of apps out there to help you find your way, many of which are free (Google maps and Apple Maps App being the obvious starting points). However, there are also lots of apps designed specifically to help you find campsites, wild camping spots and recommended routes. Search Google Play or the App Store and you’ll be amazed just how many there are!
Be aware, though, these apps eat up mobile data, and battery life (see the next section). Plus there’s the issue of data coverage / reception, especially when you’re off the beaten track. For this reason we always suggest carrying an old school printed map of the area you are visiting, too.
