WHY IT’S HIDDEN Okay, taxes and gratuities aren’t exactly hidden, but many couples don’t realize how much they’ll end up shelling out for both. While service charges and taxes may be spelled out in your contract, tipping isn’t mandatory—but it is always appreciated for a job well done.

THE COST Taxes depend on the total cost and location of your wedding. (Taxes vary by area, but they can range from zero to more than 8 percent). Service charges are usually 15 to 20 percent of the total bill. And remember: Tipping does vary from vendor to vendor.
