Once you’ve narrowed down your list to two or three potential photographers, meet with each in person to see if you feel comfortable with them. We can’t stress enough how important this is—almost as crucial as their camera skills. Aside from your gut instinct, ask these questions before signing a contract.

style and background

What photography style(s) do you specialize in? Are there any styles you don’t do?

Most shooters use a blend of several, but make sure they shoot portraits, for example, if they’re important to you.

WHY YOU WANT TO KNOW You wouldn’t ask Monet to paint a Picasso, right? Going with the style a photographer likes to shoot (and has the most experience shooting) will give you the best results.
