BUILDING PARADISE

Jamie: I’m no trail builder: I can barely remember the last time I even skidded a line in. But when Nico (an adopted Queenstown local originally from France) called asking if I wanted to go to New Caledonia to build some new trail for Ouenghi Bike Club, I couldn’t say no.

After getting time off from work my flights were booked and in no time we were touching down in Noumea. The dig crew consisted of Craig Wight and Phil Oliver from Alexandra, and Queenstown locals Jake Hood, Nico Piraud, Oliver Buffet, Ashton Oliver and me. We arrived at the trails on a Sunday evening and got acquainted by drinking beer and playing cards, ready to start grafting on Monday morning.
